Teen & Family Services was founded in May 2002 by a group of mental health professionals who had a vision of addressing adolescent issues by creating a community of support for teens and their families. This vision included combining the strengths of an alternative peer group and an indicated prevention program with proven counseling approaches that would serve the needs of the entire family.
Over the past eight years the majority of our graduates have minimized or remained free of former high risk behaviors, and over seventy percent of graduates over the age of eighteen are currently enrolled in, or have completed, college. Far beyond the goal of reducing teen high risk behaviors, families report a significant improvement in functioning in a wide range of areas including family communication, emotional maturity, social interaction, problem solving and long-term goal setting.
Teen & Family Services is very active throughout the community and is involved in church youth-group education and school support groups. Our staff speaks regularly at schools located throughout the greater Houston area and currently holds positions on the advisory committee for Safe & Drug Free School & Social Emotion Learning programs for local school districts. Our approach has proven so successful that our staff has taught this modality to mental health professionals throughout the United States.
Teen & Family Services is also a member of both The Texas Afterschool Association and The National Afterschool Association.
